Analytics
If you click Accept on the cookie notice, the site loads Google Analytics, which sets cookies so I can see roughly how many people visit and which pages they read. If you click No thanks, or don’t answer, Google Analytics never loads and no analytics cookies are set. Your choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie), and you can change it any time with “Cookie preferences” at the bottom of every page.
Google’s handling of that data is covered by the Google Privacy Policyand how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Embedded videos
Videos show a thumbnail image (loaded from YouTube’s image server) until you click play. Only then does the player load from youtube-nocookie.com or Vimeo, under their own privacy policies.
Newsletter
The signup form sends your email address to Mailchimp, which runs the mailing list. You’ll get an occasional email when I publish something new, and every email has an unsubscribe link. SeeIntuit Mailchimp’s privacy statement.
Hosting
The site is hosted by DreamHost, whose web servers keep standard access logs (such as IP address, browser and the page requested) for security and troubleshooting.
